This was the first full piece I’ve scored since splitting my processing workload across two machines. Something felt slightly off in the timing when I reassembled the pieces. Might just be me, might not. Let me know if you see/hear it too.
Aside from that, this one was a lot of fun.
I’ve been digging through public domain films on the Internet Archive, looking for movies with no music, or ones where I could swap out the original score for something of my own. I’d never seen or even heard of “Hit Man” before, but I knew of both actors; Bernie Casey and Pam Grier by reputation, so I figured, why not.
It’s based on the novel “Jack’s Return Home” by Ted Lewis, which is actually where the title of this piece comes from, Jack never quite makes it home in this one. Once I read the plot description and got a feel for the setting, I was fully back in the 1970s.
Not gonna lie, the way it ends feels like something straight out of a ’70s TV show. The kind I used to watch on WFLD Channel 32, back before it was Fox.
