Wiz Research presented key findings from their “Cloud Data Security Snapshot: Current Exposure Trends” report, which analyzed numerous cloud environments for data exposure risks. A major revelation is that sensitive data frequently lies “hiding in plain sight,” with 54% of cloud environments exposing virtual machines and server-less instances containing sensitive information like PII, and 35% of these also harboring high or critical severity threats.
Furthermore, the report found that 72% of cloud environments have publicly exposed PaaS databases without proper access controls, amplifying the risk of unintentional data leaks. Even with progress in container security, 12% of cloud environments still have publicly exposed and exploitable containers.
